White Chocolate Mocha

White chocolate mocha is where coffee meets white chocolate in a latte style drink that is indulgent and sweet yet deliciously rich in coffee flavour. This white mocha coffee is quick, easy & cheap to make at home and it's far better than the average coffee shop version.

Ingredients

  • 150 ml Whole milk full-fat
  • 75 ml Espresso coffee brewed using 15g espresso powder
  • 30 g White chocolate
  • ¼ teaspoon Vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Fill a mug with hot water and leave to stand while you make the mocha
  • Warm the milk in a saucepan until steaming, then add the white chocolate and stir until fully melted
  • Stir in the vanilla extract
  • Optional: froth the milk using a stick blender or a milk frother
  • Brew the espresso coffee - aim for around 40ml
  • Pour the warm water out of the mug and pour in the coffee then top with the chocolate milk
  • Garnish with whipped cream and toppings as desired and serve immediately

Notes

  • Warm your mug by letting hot water stand in it while making the drink
  • Vary the strength of the coffee according to your own tastes, but remember that very strong coffee may mask the white chocolate flavour more significantly
  • Taste the drink before deciding to add any sugar to it. I find this drink, as made according
  • Make it vegan: try using almond or oat milk in place of regular dairy milk and use vegan white chocolate. Don't forget to forego the whipped cream or make a suitable swap with a vegan-friendly product such as whipped coconut cream

Making without an espresso machine
If you do not own an espresso machine it is still possible to make this drink. Try brewing the espresso coffee in a cafetière (French press) instead.
Alternatively, use instant coffee - dissolve 1 rounded teaspoon in 40ml hot water.

Make an iced white mocha
Heat just ⅓ of the milk to melt the chocolate into, then transfer this to a jug and add the remaining cold milk and some cooled coffee. Chill if there's time and then pour over plenty of ice.
