Cold Fighting Tropical Turmeric Smoothie

  • 100 g/ 4oz mango - frozen
  • 25 g/ 1 oz carrot
  • 1 cm fresh turmeric root (see notes)
  • ½ cm fresh ginger
  • pinch ground allspice (or 2 crushed allspice berries)
  • 120 ml/ ½ cup coconut water
  • 120 ml/ ½ cup pineapple juice
  • ½ orange (peeled)
  • Honey - optional - to taste
  • Handful ice


  • Peel and chop the carrot, turmeric and ginger
  • Put all ingredients into a blender and blitz until smoothie


1. Fresh turmeric has a peppery, warm and slightly bitter flavour. If you can handle a little more in your smoothie then up the quantity to 2cm.
2. If you can't get hold of fresh turmeric you could substitute ground - 1 teaspoon ground turmeric is roughly equivalent to 1 inch of fresh turmeric - so use ½ - 1 teaspoon ground in this recipe.
