1. Fresh turmeric has a peppery, warm and slightly bitter flavour. If you can handle a little more in your smoothie then up the quantity to 2cm.2. If you can't get hold of fresh turmeric you could substitute ground - 1 teaspoon ground turmeric is roughly equivalent to 1 inch of fresh turmeric - so use ½ - 1 teaspoon ground in this recipe.
