Okay. I seem to be mis-aligned with the seasons. Today I’m talking about my super healthy, cold-fighting, Tropical Turmeric Smoothie. Let’s be clear, today: the UK’s hottest day of the year so far – and the warmest September day since 1911. For this small error in scheduling I apologise – I know you all want ice cream. But in the middle of winter, when sniffles are rife, you will thank me for my persistence.
Apologies aside, at least my decision to base this drink on tropical flavours – and the colour – ties in with the lovely sunshine that’s been up for grabs today.
So what’s this drink about?
Way back in January, I shared my recipe for Golden Milk – a beautifully soothing, warm and cosy anti-inflammatory drink, perfect for fighting off colds and flu. But life is not all fleecy blankets and toasty fires. Sometimes the order of the day is cold, refreshing and fruity. And that’s where today’s snazzy little number fits in.
This Tropical Turmeric Smoothie has the anti-inflammatory health benefits of Golden Milk thanks to the inclusion of fresh turmeric root. But it also has a vitamin boost courtesy of the fresh and plentiful fruit & veg blitzed in.
Although I usually like to nerd out and hit you with a tonne of health related information when you’re least expecting it, I’m holding back today. If you would like to find out why turmeric is so good for you, you’ll be pleased to know I’ve covered that before in my post for Golden Milk. Hop across if you missed out in January and want to find out more.
If you just want smoothie regardless, carry on reading.
Tropical seemed an obvious theme to base this smoothie on since turmeric is a dazzling shade of golden orange and tropical makes me think of golden sun, golden sands and golden mango. Sticking with the tropical, I’ve added coconut water, pineapple and allspice – one of the most commonly used spices in Caribbean cuisine.
Confession: whenever I hear ‘Tropical’ I automatically think of Malibu rum. I think I did well to resist adding a squirt to this healthy smoothie.
Health benefits aside, a glassful of this Tropical Turmeric Smoothie offers up plenty of punchy flavour. The sweet mango and pineapple offset the spices beautifully to create a fabulously vibrant drink. And, let’s face it, that colour is really quite impressive.
I like my smoothies as natural as possible, but a little honey does sweeten it nicely. If you are not used to the peppery, slightly bitter flavour of turmeric, you may prefer to add a drizzle.

I just bought a jar of tumeric and have been looking for ways to use it. With the stress I have had, I have a feeling that I will be getting sick this winter. Maybe I can hold it off with this!

Hi Jennifer – you’re well on your way to a healthy autumn then… and hopefully less stressful (thinking of Tropical beaches might help too) And thanks – you’ve just reminded me to put some ‘jar’ equivalent measures into my recipe
