Shake up your Easter entertaining repertoire by introducing your guests to this Warninks advocaat Easter cocktail. It’s fun. It’s loaded with flavour. And it’s entirely different to what’s expected from an advocaat cocktail.
This Easter-themed cocktail blends advocaat with vodka, brandy and creme de cacao to create a sip that is rich in classic advocaat flavour but with hints of chocolate.
Go for a simple presentation or go wild with inventive garnishes. This fun cocktail is one you can inject your own personality into.
What makes this Easter-themed cocktail special
This Warninks Easter cocktail has many desirable attributes:
- The colour – pastel yellow is so fitting for Easter.
- It’s creamy but not too creamy.
- There’s a hint of chocolate alongside the trademark advocaat flavours.
- A touch of vodka and a drop of brandy both add extra depth.
- It’s fun.
- Decorations can be as simple or creative as you desire.
When to enjoy Warninks advocaat
Although Warninks advocaat is synonymous with Christmas, specifically the Snowball cocktail, there’s no reason it should be limited to this short period of time. In fact, Italians enjoy it all winter long in their ski resorts, slipping it into the warming Bombardino drink.
But the beautiful yellow colour of advocaat and the creamy, vanilla hued flavour profile does make it an ideal ingredient at Easter too. Especially in Easter-themed cocktails such as this one.
These days there’s no reason to stick with old traditions. If you enjoy advocaat don’t reserve it just for Christmas. It can be enjoyed at any time of the year in baking, cocktails and boozy milkshakes.
Ingredients notes
Don’t compromise on the quality of the advocaat used for this Easter cocktail – it’s the key component. I recommend only Warninks advocaat – it’s miles ahead of alternative brands in terms of flavour and texture.
This libation play ups those vanilla flavours by incorporating a splash of vanilla vodka into the mix. But if you don’t have vanilla vodka, feel free to use regular vodka in its place.
Hints of chocolate are intertwined with the advocaat flavour using creme de cacao. To keep the lovely fresh yellow colour in this cocktail ensure you use white creme de cacao rather than the brown version. De Kuyper makes a lovely one.
Finally, a drop of brandy helps add a little extra depth and punch to this drink, turning it into a well-rounded Easter cocktail to be sipped and savoured. Three Barrels combines reliable quality with a keen price point.
Step-by-step instructions
- If you intend to rim the glass with chocolate sauce and garnishes, do so before preparing the cocktail.
- Pour all alcohol into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Secure the lid and shake hard for 30-40 seconds until the contents feel well chilled.
- Strain into the prepared glass.
- Decorate as desired.
Expert tips
I have just a few words of advice for making this Easter cocktail:
- Prepare any garnishes before mixing and pouring this drink. This way it will still be deliciously cold when served.
- Use plenty of ice to ensure the cocktail is sufficiently diluted and chilled.
- If you do not own a cocktail shaker try using a large glass jar with a screw top lid instead.
Frequently asked questions
Advocaat is made from brandy, egg yolks, vanilla and sugar, resulting in a creamy liqueur reminiscent of custard. The brandy adds a fantastic depth of flavour to this liqueur and stops it from becoming too sweet or too creamy.
I don’t recommend this product as the beautiful pastel yellow colour of this Easter-themed cocktail will be adversely affected. Stick with white creme de cacao in this instance.
You can by all means mix the ingredients together ahead of time. However, I advise shaking with the ice at the point of serving to enjoy this Easter cocktail deliciously cold. And of course, the decorations should definitely be added at the point of serving.
The only reason that this drink would curdle is if the ingredients accidentally come into something acidic such as lemon juice or vinegar. To avoid this, ensure your equipment and serving glasses are scrupulously clean.
How to decorate this advocaat cocktail
Present this advocaat libation as an Easter-themed cocktail:
- Scatter crushed candy eggs over the whipped cream.
- Or fill half a hollow chocolate egg with a few candy eggs and balance it on the side of the glass.
- Alternatively skewer a few bite-sized chocolate eggs onto cocktail picks (heat a metal cocktail pick in hot water, dry it then poke the pick through the eggs so they melt rather than shatter).
And, of course, this cocktail can be served at any other time of the year with the following garnishes:
- Keep things simple with a delicate flower.
- Use sprinkles to top the whipped cream.
- Or some crushed cookies.
