What could be better than a drink that can serve as a mocktail or a cocktail? With that notion in mind, I I created a sparkling grenadine and lemonade mocktail. It can be served just as it is or laced with a tipple of gin, vodka or tequila.
Ingredient Notes
Disclaimer: Pomegranate may interact with certain medications and may not be suitable for everyone. If you have health concerns, dietary restrictions or are taking prescribed medication, consult a healthcare professional before enjoying this mocktail.

Pomegranate Syrup: The star ingredient in this drink is the homemade pomengranate syrup. It takes just a few minutes to make and beats store bought hands down since there are no nasty numbers or unfamiliar items floating around in the list of ingredients. However, you can use store bought pomegranate syrup if you do not want to make your own.
Lemonade: Use sparkling lemonade - clear or cloudy is fine.
Optional Garnishes
Any of the following make lovely adornments to this grenadine and lemonade mocktail:
- Pomegranate arils.
- Fresh berries: Raspberries, blueberries or strawberries.
- Twist of lemon zest.
- Fresh mint, thyme or rosemary sprigs.
- Cinnamon stick.
How to Make a Pomegranate & Lemonade Mocktail

- Step 1: Pour the pomegranate syrup into an empty copa glass (do not add ice yet).

- Step 2: Pour in the lemonade.

- Step 3: Add lots of ice to the glass.

- Step 4: Garnish with fresh mint, a lemon twist and more berries. Serve immediately.
Expert Tips
- Stir if necessary: Depending on the thickness of your pomegranate syrup you may need to stir your mocktail well - do it gently to retain the fizz.
- Use clear glasses to show off the colour: High ball glasses or Copa glasses are ideal.
Variations:
- Pomegranate & Ginger Mocktail: Swap the lemonade for ginger ale to add a warming twist to your pomegranate mocktail.
- Shirley Temple: Use ginger ale in place of the lemonade and garnish your mocktail with a maraschino cocktail cherry.
- Less sugar: Use low sugar/ sugar free pomengranate syrup and replace the lemonade with soda water.
- Add alcohol: A measure of gin, vodka or tequila works well in this drink.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can do, but the drink will be much tarter in flavour than it is when made with syrup.
Pomegranate may interact with certain medications and may not be suitable for everyone. Please consult a healthcare professional if you have any concerns before consuming.
Not all grenadine is made juice with pomegranate. Raspberry, cherry, strawberry and grape often feature in store-bought versions. In these versions the pomegranate juice content can be very low, meaning the flavour can be quite different.

Our little blogging community really is the best, I couldn't do it without you ladies!
And I'm not sure I can do this weekend without trying this Pomegranate Lemon Cooler either (WITH booze, of course!). I've never made my own grenadine so I really need to get on that ASAP!

You just made it a lot easier for me to stay hydrated this summer. The weather is actually perfect for it today...I may be on my way to the market! Happy Baby Shower Day!

Excellent. I think you'll enjoy homemade grenadine in your cocktail making too.

One of my favorite aspects of blogging is getting to know bloggers from all over the world! Sometimes, you gals keep me sane (and keep me from giving up too!). Planning a #virtualbabyshower for our friend Meghan has been so much fun!
I love your Sparkling Pomegranate Cooler. I'm all over the idea of making my own grenadine, as I try to avoid long words that sound nasty... Hubby and I are trying to replace some of our boozy beverages with mocktails, so I'm excited to give this a whirl (both versions)!
Cheers to Meghan, Mr. Fox, and baby!

I feel exactly the same. If it weren't for a certain somebody in our support group I'd have quit blogging 11 months in when my site broke for 3 weeks in 2015.
You've done an amazing job getting us all organised for this little party - I hope you get chance to sit back and enjoy a cocktail (perhaps with the homemade grenadine) before too long.
