Fireworks on the Beach is a fiery twist on the classic Sex on the Beach cocktail. At the heart of this cocktail lies Chilli Vodka, making it a spicy, fruity, long and punchy drink to savour.
After hinting that there was another Chilli Vodka cocktail lurking in my recipe book a few weeks back I decided to get a wriggle on and share it with you.
Fireworks on the Beach is my take on the popular classic cocktail: Sex on the Beach (SOTB). The inspiration behind this drink came late one evening on holiday last year. Wandering back to our caravan, having just watched fireworks on the beach, the realisation that it would be a great name for a cocktail dawned.
Of course, my mind went straight into over-drive. I knew chilli had to take centre stage. But how. And then the obvious hit me – given the name is similar but not identical to SOTB the two drinks should be related. A little like fraternal twins, there may be a few similarities between them, but Fireworks on the Beach and SOBT definitely have their own personalities.
In it’s classic form SOTB blends vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice and orange juice. It’s a notoriously tasty mix. But – being me – I had to go and meddle with the formula. I’ve ramped things up a little with my home-infused Chilli Vodka. Although you can’t fail to notice that you are drinking liquid spice in this cocktail, I’ve tempered that chilli hit and the sour cranberry juice with a generous splash of pineapple juice.
My big tip for making this (and any other) cocktail involving cranberry juice is to ensure your buy cranberry juice rather than cranberry juice drink. Go for the pure stuff. There is a big difference – both in flavour and colour.
Just look at that colour.
To make Fireworks on the Beach you’ll need some Chilli Vodka. It’s incredibly simple and quick to make: just follow my tutorial and you can have a bottle made up in 6 hours (or less depending how spicy you want to go).
Fireworks on the Beach is my sassy side-kick sibling to SOTB. It is fruity, fiery, long and… without a doubt… punchy. It’s really the perfect drink to serve up to a crowd. That chilli hit also works wonders for slowing down the drinking pace. And that, as we all know, can be a lifesaver if you have a long afternoon or evening of partying drinking responsibly ahead of you.
