We have my eldest daughter to thank for this strawberry Tequila Rose cocktail since she introduced me to this fruity cream liqueur recently. When creating this libation, I played about with various additional ingredients, settling on coconut rum to compliment the fruity flavour profile of the star ingredient.

What is Tequila Rose liqueur?
Tequila Rose liqueur is a strawberry cream liqueur that combines strawberry, cream and premium blue agave tequila from Mexico. It first appeared in the UK in 2004.

How should Tequila Rose be stored?
Unopened, this strawberry cream liqueur can be stored at room temperature for several years. Once opened, it is best kept refrigerated and consumed within 6 months.
Did you know that Tequila Rose comes in a temperature-changing bottle that allows drinkers to see when the liqueur is chilled to perfection? When refrigerated sufficiently the rose on the front of the bottle turns from silver to pink. Ingenious and fun!
Is Tequila Rose liqueur vegan?
As Tequila Rose liqueur contains dairy cream it is not suitable for vegans or anybody following a dairy-free diet.
This strawberry cream liqueur is, however, gluten-free and nut-free.
Ingredients notes
Tequila Rose liqueur: as the name suggests, this is a vital ingredient. You can pick up a bottle of Tequila Rose on Amazon but it’s often cheaper to buy it in a supermarket.
Coconut rum: this ingredient introduces a further complimentary flavour and should not be left out. I used Malibu coconut rum.
Tequila: use a decent quality tequila to help keep the flavour profile smooth and rounded. I enjoy Olmeca Altos tequila Plata.
Raspberry liqueur: only a splash of this ingredient is needed and if you don’t have any to hand you can go ahead and make this Tequila Rose cocktail without it. I used Chambord raspberry liqueur but you could alternatively use strawberry liqueur.
Equipment notes
Use a cocktail shaker to blend and aerate the ingredients in this strawberry cream marry me cocktail. If you do not have one then use a strong, large jar with a screw top lid. It needs to be strong enough to withstand ice cubes being shaken vigorously in it without the jar breaking.
You’ll also need something to strain your cocktail such as a Hawthorne strainer, julep strainer or, failing those options, a small fine-meshed sieve.
Step by step instructions

Step 1. Put a large handful of ice into the base of a cocktail shaker and pour in the Tequila Rose, coconut rum, tequila and raspberry liqueur.
Step 2. Secure the lid of the shaker, shake it vigorously for 30-40 seconds and strain your drink into a serving glass. Garnish as desired and serve.
Top Tip: shake this cocktail for the proper length of time to ensure it is fully chilled, adequately diluted and nicely aerated.

- Ensure that your equipment and glassware are extremely clean. If anything acidic, such as citrus juice, comes into contact with the ingredients the drink will split – even just a trace of something acidic can ruin this creamy cocktail.
- Measure the ingredients properly. This cocktail is the perfect blend of the listed ingredients. Incorrect measures will upset this balance.
- Chill your serving glass for 15 minutes prior to making this recipe to ensure your strawberry liqueur cocktail is served deliciously cold.

This strawberry liqueur cocktail cries out to be garnished thoughtfully. Here are some ideas:
- Fresh fruit – slice a strawberry in half, slit it down the middle and wedge it onto the rip of your cocktail glass.
- Whipped cream – scatter some crushed freeze-dried strawberries, raspberries or pink sprinkles over the top for additional charm.
- Ice cream float – you may prefer to swap to a tall glass, fill with ice and pour the drink in before adding a scoop of strawberry or vanilla ice cream and a fresh strawberry.
- Fruit rim – crush a few freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries in a pestle and mortar (as finely as you like), rub a cut fresh strawberry around the edge of your glass and press the wet area into the crushed strawberries.
Frequently asked questions
You do need to shake rather than stir this strawberry Tequila Rose cocktail. However, if you do not own a cocktail shaker, you can use a strong glass jar with a screw top lid.
As tequila Rose is a cream-based liqueur it will split (curdle) if it comes into contact with anything acidic such as citrus juice or vinegar. The cocktail listed does not include these ingredients, so if your drink splits it will likely be because there are traces of an acidic ingredient on your equipment or serving glass. For this reason, ensure that they are extremely clean before making this drink.
Yes, you can make this strawberry liqueur cocktail in advance. Simply multiply the ingredients by however many servings you would like to make, mix them in a jug and store it all in a bottle in the fridge. When ready to serve a measure just shake it with the ice, pour, garnish and serve your libation.

- 20 ml Tequila

- 10 ml Raspberry liqueur such as Chambord
