Bourbon Black Forest Cocktail

It’s really happening. Christmas is only 1,2… 5 days away. For that reason, my post today will be short and to the point. Very soon I’m heading up to school to collect my excitable kids for their school holiday. I’m not actually certain who is more excited on this point – me or them. They still have days to wait before their real fun begins, whereas I’m already happy because we can slip into holiday mode in oh… just a few hours time.

But before then I just have a few more things that must get done. Like talking about this smart little Black Forest Cocktail. You didn’t really think I would seriously sign off until 2017 without treating you to a suitably wintery cocktail to enjoy over the Christmas period did you?

Good. You know me well.

This Bourbon Black Forest Cocktail is a recipe that I’ve been desperate to share for quite some time. But I felt releasing it in the middle of summer perhaps wasn’t fair. This cocktail really is perfect winter fodder – along with the bourbon I’ve mixed in two of my favourite flavours: cherry and chocolate. (You may have noticed my slight obsession with chocolate & cherry and all things Black Forest this year?)

Anyway. The cocktail. There’s bourbon, cherry brandy and chocolate liqueur….

… then there’s a delicate float of cream with a scattering of grated chocolate to top it off…

…. and there’s a Maraschino cherry hiding in the bottom of each glass.

Bourbon Black Forest Cocktail

This Bourbon Black Forest Cocktail is deeply warming and pleasantly sweet. In truth it’s all that is really needed to go alongside a cosy fire and fleecy blankets on a dark and chilly winter’s night. It’s equally well served as an adults-only dessert or a comforting nightcap.

And talking of nightcaps, I really must call last orders and say goodbye until next year. I had a week that did not quite go to plan last week so I’m trying desperately to catch up before school ends in um…gulp… just a few hours.

Wishing you all a wonderful festive season full of love & good company, fun & laughter and good food & excellent cocktails – obviously.
