Why I love this collection of recipes
Coffee is a very bespoke drink, purists may well shudder at the creations that have evolved in the wake of coffee shop chains. I embrace them though and this collection of coffee drink recipes is one I'm proud of for a few reasons:
- Variety: As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life. For those who like to mess around with their cup of coffee, this collection of recipes provides plenty of choice.
- Adaptable: most of these recipes can all be modified to suit diatary needs such dairy-free or decaffeinated.
- Fun: What is life without a little frivolity? If you are a coffee purist, please try not judge those who like to get playful with their daily brew.

Warm fancy coffees (non-alcoholic)
Included in this section are easy speciality coffee recipes including lattes and mocha drinks. They are all alcohol-free and perfect to savour any time of day.
Flavoured lattes
Lattes typically have a coffee to milk ratio of 1:2 which means that there is twice as much milk as there is coffee. A classic latte is not sweetened or flavoured and provides a milky coffee beverage that is quite gentle and mellow. It's ideal for anybody new to the coffee-scene and for anybody who finds an espresso or Americano just too bitter to enjoy.
Of course, there are many flavoured latte variations floating around coffee shop menus. Most use syrup to add the headline flavour. Here are my homemade flavoured lattes for you to make at home for a fraction of the price of coffee shop versions.
Vanilla Bean Latte

Vanilla bean latte is a lovely introduction to the word of flavoured lattes. It's mellow, with creamy vanilla notes that play up to the rich coffee superbly well. Infused with syrup made from vanilla beans, with the seeds included in it ensures that this will be the finest vanilla latte you've tasted.
Salted Caramel Latte

A true coffee house classic, the salted caramel latte is a real crowdpleaser. Mellow, homemade caramel syrup is the key to success for this recipe and the level of salt is adjustable to taste - it can even be omitted to should you wish to make a straight caramel latte.
Pistachio Latte

Pistachio latte is perhaps the richest and most indulgent drink out of all my warm fancy coffees. Made with pistachio creme this is a slightly thick drink to linger over. Sip it and savour the luxurious blend of coffee, nuttiness, sweetness & creaminess. Serve with a chocolate-dipped pistachio biscuit for ultimate bliss.
Biscoff Latte

Biscoff latte was my first daliance into the world of fancy coffee drinks and it remains one of my favourites. Think sweet, spiced biscuity notes alongside robust coffee with a thicker, creamy texture than most latte drinks. It's amazing. It goes well with a slice of Biscoff flapjack.
Spanish Latte

The Spanish latte, sweetened with condensed milk is different to most lattes as it uses a 1:1 ratio of milk to espresso coffee making it punchier than most. This flavoured latte is also known as café con leche.
Oat Milk Honey Latte

Oat milk is a lovely dairy-free ingredient in coffee drinks as it has a mild yet creamy flavour. In this honey latte it is paired with a hint of cinnamon to create a cosy and warming coffee drink perfectly suited to cooler seasons.
Cardamom Almond Milk Latte

Less common on the spice trail is cardamom and it pairs wonderfully with coffee. It's used in this almond milk latte alongside vanilla and rosewater to create an enchanting and rather tasty dairy-free coffee drink.
Mocha drinks
Mocha coffee drinks often have a lower milk content compared to lattes but the prices ratio varies widely. Some versions can be classed as mocha lattes becuase they keep within the 1:2 ratio of coffee to milk. The key element of any mocha coffee is that it will include chocolate. This can be introduced in the form of a syrup, cocoa powder or real chocolate.
The coffee and chocolate base present in a mocha is a great starting point for speciality coffee recipes to be developed. Have a go at recreating some of these gorgeous coffee recipes at home.
Mexican Mocha

Mexican mocha is a daring coffee drink recipe featuring an abundance of warming spices, including a kick of chilli heat. This drink pairs rich coffee and decadent chocolate with those comforting spices for a speciality coffee recipe like no other. The ideal partner for this beverage is a slice of Mexican mocha cake.
White Chocolate Mocha

At the other end of the scale, white chocolate mocha is a gentle introduction to fancy coffee drinks for anybody with a leaning towards the sweeter things in life. Creamy white chocolate, hints of vanilla and plenty of steamed milk accompany espresso coffee for a lovely, indulgent treat. This one begs to be dressed up with whipped cream.
Caramel Mocha

Homemade caramel syrup with a deep flavour helps balance the coffee and chocolate notes in this homemade caramel mocha. Of course, it can be garnished in style and a dash of sea salt can also be included to turn it into a salted caramel mocha. Pitch it with a slice of espresso brownie for the ultimate sweet mocha experience.
Minty Mocha

Peppermint mocha is a lovely seasonal twist on classic mocha. But this peppermint coffee, made with white chocolate, is even better than the more typical coffee-shop version. Extravagant toppings, including whipped cream and seasonal garnishes are pretty much mandatory.
Cold fancy coffees (non-alcoholic)
Often associated with summer, but suitable for quaffing year round, iced coffee is a real treat. Smooth, chilled, endlessly versatile, it's the perfect way to enjoy your daily coffee when the weather warms up. Here goes with my collection of cold coffee drink recipes - it's not limited to just coffee-shop style iced coffees.
Caffé Shakerato

This Italian iced coffee looks just like an espresso martini cocktail but it's actually alcohol-free. I think of the caffé shakerato as a sweetened iced espresso. Classic versions are made with simple syrup but my version uses homemade demerara syrup. Tinker with the syrup to suit your latest craving - hint: pumpkin spice syrup is grand.
Iced Coconut Coffee

Every year readers love this iced coffee made with coconut milk and condensed milk. It's sweet, cooling and hard to resist. Turn the first batch of the season into ice cubes ready to add to your chilled coffee drinks further into the warm season.
Coffee & Date Milkshake

This coffee milkshake is not as naughty as it looks. One sip and you'll be convinced it contains ice cream as it's so thick, creamy and indulgent. However, it does not. Dates provide the sweetness and add body to the drink, but they are so much more nutricious than a few scoops of ice cream. Try it and be converted.
It's worth noting that many of the speciality coffee recipes already mentioned can be converted to iced coffee drinks. My favourites are the iced vanilla bean latte and iced caramel latte. Instructions for converting these warm fancy coffee drinks into the iced versions are included in each post.
Warm coffee drinks with alcohol
Adding a nip of alcohol to a warm coffee drink can create a cosy and comforting homemade coffee for minimal effort. My collection goes far beyond Irish coffee and many of these speciality coffee recipes make a lovely end to an evening meal though they can be enjoyed any time.
Irish Latte

Irish latte (aka Baileys latte) is a latte coffee laced with Baileys Irish Cream. It's deeply delicious and a sure hit for baileys lovers. Although this drink can be enjoyed year-round it is especially welcome over the festive period and, of course, on St Patrick's Day. Try it with a slice of Irish coffee cake.
Boozy Gingerbread Latte

Kahlúa gingerbread latte is in prime season over Christmas when gingerbread is everywhere we turn. Homemade gingerbread syrup perks up this boozy latte but it can also be made without alcohol for non-drinkers.
Coffee with Blackcurrant & Almond Liqueurs

This intriguing beverage is an unusual blend of coffee with almond liqueur and blackcurrant liqueur. Topped with a cloud of softly whipped cream, this is one fancy coffee drink that could easily take the place of dessert. This coffee is unique but definitely worth trying.
Baileys Mocha

The Baileys mocha is a close relation to the Baileys latte. The addition of chocolate makes this drink even more indulgent. Try it alongside Baileys mocha mousse for a fine pairing of drinks and dessert.
Coconut Liqueur Coffee

Coconut liqueur coffee is a treat. It is just as easy to make as an Irish coffee yet with gentler notes of alcohol. There's a nip of Kahlúa liqueur mixed in too, just to keep those coffee vibes lively. It's one to ensure you try out.
Festive Latte with Advocaat

No collection of speciality coffee drinks is complete without a drop of advocaat. This Christmas latte blends coffee and advocaat seamlessly to create a warm, cosy and festive drink that grown-ups love. This one screams for seasonal garnishes, so push the boat out. It goes well with snowball truffles.
Coffee cocktails
From smooth and creamy creations to lively, spirit-forward libations, the world of coffee cocktails is extensive. Coffee cocktails are often served as an after dinner indulgence or as a pick-me-up during a lively evening. One thing is clear, fancy coffee drinks don't get much better than a well-crafted cocktail.
Baileys Espresso Martini

Espresso martini with Baileys Irish Cream is a real crowd-pleaser. Slightly sweet, slightly creamy and full of deep coffee flavour, this is an easy cocktail to make and slip into whatever the occasion.
Don't miss my Baileys espresso martini ice cream - pure heaven.
Drambuie Cocktail

This Drambuie cocktail combines espresso coffee with Scottish Drambuie liqueur in fine style. Expect undertones of honey and chocolate in this deeply comforting cocktail. It's your choice whether to float the cream or mix it in.
Espresso Gin Martini

There's more than one way to make the wildly popular espresso martini. Try replacing the vodka with gin to create a ginspresso. Clean-cut flavour with a pronounced coffee edge ensures this libation wins favour.
Gingerbread Black Russian

Gingerbread Black Russian doesn't contain fresh coffee but there is plenty of spark from a general glug of Kahlúa coffee liqueur. Teamed with vodka and homemade gingerbread syrup this is one sweet coffee drink not to miss out on, especially in the dead of winter. Serve a few Black Russian truffles alongside.
Rum Espresso Martini

Take the classic coffee cocktail and swap the vodka for rum, include notes of spice, orange and chocolate and you have a sublime rum espresso martini that is ready in no time at all.
Coffee Alexander

A creamy blend of brandy and coffee liqueur results in a charming after dinner cocktail that can be adorned simply with grated nutmeg & coffee beans or jazzed up with more elaborate garnishes - chocolate covered wafers or even Ferrero Rocher on cocktail picks work a treat.
Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini

Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini is a lovely seasonal twist on the classic cocktail and it's so easy. Replacing simple syrup with pumpkin spice syrup is all it takes to make this flavoured coffee cocktail. Serve this little number to the grown-ups at Halloween parties or after the fireworks on Bonfire Night.
Chilli Espresso Martini

For those who enjoy some punchy chilli heat in their cocktail this chilli espresso martini is the way to go. Made using chilli liqueur, there's no messing about with fresh chilli so it couldn't be simpler. Not got chilli liqueur to hand? Make your own chilli vodka then use it in place of regular vodka in a classic espresso martini recipe instead.
